I want to know if I can work as a travel nurse in my hometown and still keep my full time staff nurse position? What is the pros/cons with this situation?

Taking a local travel or local contract assignment in your home town may be possible but will be quite a challenge if you plan to keep your full time gig. Depending on the area you live in and what needs are like there, you may be able to find an assignment working consecutive 12 hour shifts or perhaps 2 shifts per week. Then, if you have the flexibility to work consecutive shifts or self schedule at your permanent job you could make it happen. However, given the fact that travel assignments are much harder to find than they used to be, this could be close to impossible. My recommendation would be to sign on with an agency and make yourself available for per diem shifts. That way, you can give the agency your work schedule each week and if a shift comes up on your day off you can decide if you want to take it. Per diem can be a nice way to supplement your income while maintaining some flexibility.

Best of luck to you!
