I am blessed in that I have not had any real bad experiences, but I've heard some HORROR stories out there!

Anyone have any nightmares to share?

Worst place I ever worked was a nursing home in south Florida. I won't mention the name but they had 56 beds, staffed with only two LPNs and CNAs on most evening and night shifts. Of course, they were supposed to have an RN in house at all times but didn't and the place was a dump and many residents had advanced stage bed sores and tissue break down- just could not provide care under those conditions... I couldn't take it and I think they have since been closed down.

That is horrifying! You didn't report them yourself!

At one hospital I worked the DON was arrested in the middle of the shift. Appears he'd been selling drugs from the hospital.

When I was a CNA I worked at a nursing home at night and they never washed their people! I had to idea bc I'd never done that type of work before. So I changed jobs a year later and was like WOW you all do what?! so I was still working at the 1st one and went back when I was schedualed and did my peri care on my residents, a few other aids caught on but not many and to this day if you walk in there you can smell urine and poo and see it dried on the floor. I've called state on them but they get their act together when they know state is on their way. Sad

Re: gugxg (Post 35)
I worked at a hospital that had an RN with an attitude. She was the laziest person I have ever met. We had a patient that had passed away. I am an LPN and it's out of my scope of practice to access or deaccess any central line etc. This RN told me to go pull her central line. I told her it was not in my scope of practice. She proceeded to tell me to get my butt in there and pull the line, and stated that I couldn't hurt this patient because she was already dead or I was going to be written up for insubordination. Of course I still refused and this opened a can of worms. I even called the state board of nursing and they said it was a gray area and that I did the right thing. In any event, she got in trouble so she decided I was going to get in trouble also. She accused me of stealing narcs. I was fired from the job and it took a year for the board to clear me of ALL charges. This RN is still working there. She has been reported for MANY things including charting assessments on patients when she had never even gotten up from the nurses desk. Makes you wonder what she has on them.
