My kids' diets are atrocious! Fast food, sodas, chips and sweets are the staples yet they complain about how they look and feel. I can't get them to eat a piece of fruit or a single vegetable and still they complain as they gorge on junk. I want them to take better care of themselves and to feel better but I can't get them to change. What to do?

Here's a thought: DON'T BUY THEM JUNK FOOD!

If you only buy nutritious food that's what they'll have around to eat.

Here's another thought: PUT THEM TO WORK!

Get them out mowing the lawn and washing your car. Have them burn some calories!

Evil or Very Mad I work in a nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center, not a po-dunk trailer park clinic, and yes, I am usually cranky, ma'am. Evil or Very Mad

The point here, since you missed it, was that parents need to take some responsibility for their kids' diet and health!

Easy folks. It may be best to ease your kids into better nutrition. Try peanut butter on an apple. Peanut butter on celery. Peanut butter on a WHOLE grain piece of bread (my favorite is oatmeal) with a little honey. PB is one of the easiest "healthier" foods to get a kid to eat. Also, get your kids involved in the kitchen. A friend of mine has a called "Kids in the Kitchen." It's run through the Junior League.....http://kidsinthekitchen.ajli.org/ Try looking there for some insight and help. Can't hurt.

My apologies - I just think we have a big problem with our kids these days and it astounds and frustrates me when it seems parents are at a loss for how to parent their kids. Parents should be the authorities and run the show - like I do Very Happy

I'm not a control freak so please don't think that way after this post, but with my step kids, the kitchen is off limits to them unless it's a glass of old fashion H2O, I watch how much they eat, and they get enough, then durring the dy or after school I tell them to go play and if they don't go play then I find chores for them to do, I don't let them stuff themselves and loaf. My parents use to let me eat whenever and whatever I wanted and I got really fat and the older you are the harder it is to make those changes so get them while their young!
