I've heard patients complain about bitchy nurses a few times and when I do, I try to make sure that I apologize for the behavior of my colleagues and do what I can to turn their opinion around. I know that we can all get frustrated by short staffing, new admissions, lack of help but the thing that can make me the bitchiness, by far, is having to correct another nurse's mistakes. We've all made a med error, or missed an order, or forgotten a patient request, but when the nurse that you have to follow makes mistakes AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, well.... it tends to not just make me bitchy, I become LIVID!
It sounds like you have a real problem and that the nurse in question could be quite dangerous. I don't blame you for being bitchy or livid and think you should seriously consider bringing this up to your manager. Yikes
Done. And all that's been done is I no longer follow her. They gave me a different patient load. This is fine, of course, because at least my time is spent on more patient care.... but I'm wondering what's happening with the patients on the other side of the hallway.
I try to keep my bitchiness outside or at my little corner at the nurses station. it really pisses me off when you're running your ass off at 100mph and your fellow nurse is sitting there watching tv or on the phone checking in on her kids! I understand checking in on the kids and man but you DON'T HAVE TO DO IT EVERY HOUR!!! or when you're doing meds and they f the whole cart up and it takes you an extra 15 minutes to fix it. gggrrr....I love being a nurse 99% of the time but sometimes I remember why I started smoking again.
