I work 12 hours shifts for the most part, although an occasional 8 floats my way. I was wondering if the rest of you like 12 hour shifts and why or what you don't like about them. The one drawback is when they are back to back, it seems I just sleep, eat and get back in my car.
I love 12 hour shifts! I worked 8s at a clinic when I first graduated and much prefer to work 3 days than 5 days per week. I like it when they are back to back because it means I am going to have back to back days off and sometimes I get 5 day and even 6 day weekends! My hospital is so small and I stay so busy that the time really flies~!
I hated 12 hour shifts, but every once in while would like more days off. I think, actually a weekly combination of 2-12s and an 8 would work best for me.
I hate 12 hour shifts, but at the same time don't like being at work an extra day a week. I kind of miss those 3 days in, and 4 off, but I work nights, so I either trade weekend DAYS or half of my day off for sleeping. I don't know which is worse.
I did 12 hrs on my preceptorship in nursing school and I prefered them, 6 am to 6 pm, rather than 8 hr shifts, esspecially where I work at the pay periods are saturday threw friday so my boss takes and puts us on 10 day streches with 2 days off, unless you rip her a new ahole it seems like, I wish I could get ahole of a 12 hr job!
I'm going to have to agree with NewRN23 and lgreenlpn on this one. I need to have my off days to recover. I couldn't do 8s and work 5 days a week - I need to decompress!
