I was talking to a former classmate of mine the other day and he confirmed what I was pretty sure was true all along... that men in nursing earn more than women. He started out at more per hour than another classmate of mine, working the same floor, same hours, same education and experience level. That's just so wrong to me. Comments?
It's wrong to you, me, and everyone else! There is no reason a man should make more money doing the same job as a woman. We are well into the 21st century for heaven's sake!
Yes, but men are considered a minority in nursing. I think that's why they are paid more. grrr.
I'm going to speak up with this subject from personal experience. My father was a male nurse and VERY good at it, I wish I had a fourth of his knowledge, and he as an LPN made $34/hr. Which is like INSANE for the area we live in. BUT he had been a nurse for 20 years! and I also have a male friend who has been a LPN for 2 years and I have been one for 13 months and I make WAY more then he did, but he has better health benifits then I do......so does that even it out or not? I have also noticed that most male nurses, NOT ALL, but the ones I have met seem to excell in their career because they do have something to prove to everyone because they are a minority. But to each their own
maybe male nurses are paid more because they have more strength to work harder? most of the time male nurses do the heavy stuff. And more pay is to keep them in the field.
